Is it just me?
Or is a banning for use of "inappropriate language" absolutely ridiculous? Chat filter, there is one on the game for gods sakes.
I may be whining about this because I just got served a seventy two, but, even so. Anyone else agree with me?
A guy in ab (who woulda thunkit in ab really?) Called me a queer, to which i responded that he was a homophobe, to which he told me to shut up before he comes to my house, rapes my mother, and bones my dog. So, I told him to shut his C-ck holster before I come over there and f___ start his mouth, he reported me. I think that they should review the chat log too on reports such as this, if someone uses deliberately offensive and "inappropriate" language, then reports someone else for such, their report should be disregarded imo.
I'm not being a typical whiner because my account is currently temp banned, infact, I'm okay with serving my temp ban because of the way the rules currently are set up, I just wish the banning process and rules would be reviewed and revised for the future, for the benefit of all.

Well if what you are saying is true, and that guy did report you, hes probably banned too, because they will check the logs, my guess is someone else in the AB reported you for it,
See here is your lesson, next time instead of mouthing off, just use the /report then the /ignore and that will = problem solved.

Chat filter is not a license to violate the EULA. Of which you agreed to not use foul language.
Ban appropriate.

Do you know if the other guy was banned?
(More than likely you don't. I'm just making a point.)

You do have a rather fine point my good sir, but seeing as my account is banned, and I'm not going to hop on a secondary to find out, as that would be circumventing a ban, and I don't violate EULA (except i guess by telling idiots where to stick it i guess). I shall wait for someone to log onto my ventrillo, and ask them to f-list them, we shall see.

It is absolutely ridiculous, unless its racism of course. People leave the filter off that would otherwise prevent them being offended (if they're weird) or seeing language they shouldn't (if they're young), just so that they have something to complain about.
I got banned/warned constantly on LOTRO for swearing, and when I told the GM's they should just stfu and turn on the filter, he responds with "its not in-game as an excuse for people to swear" or something dumb.
Not to mention most MMO's are rated teen or mature, at which age i'd assume being subject to swearing is perfectly normal, unless the person likes living in a bubble. (and then as already said, if you don't like seeing swearing, turn on the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing filter)

Racism, sexism, culturally insensitive statements, ban a mofo for it, telling someone to shut up, or that they are an arsehat, especially if they did so to you first, please don't ban me for it. That's all I ask.

My guess is that you took it too far with the second rude remark.
Had you just kept it at RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO holster you should have been fine.

I'm actually permanently banned from LOTRO for apparently ignoring previous warnings about swearing (though I did actually cut it out in public channels, which leads me to think they probably don't even check the logs half the time).
It's pretty hilarious. I thought we were playing online games aimed at teens/adults, not going to church.

I don't think you should get a ban because your right there is a chat filter which should be used for the players with virgin eyes that report you

If someone reports you in local, Anet will look through alliance, guild, and whisper chat for offenses even though the person reporting you had no access to those chats.
This means that if you merely dislike someone and false report them for language violations, there is a good chance that they will eat a ban for a language violation.

I already knew this, and that pisses me off aswell, I admit it, I'm a generally vulgar individual, I have a mouth like a sailor because I was raised by sailors, but I also generally keep that to only in close company and joking around with friends, I very rarely say anything farther than "shut up" to anyone else.

Hahahaha , you are right. Those "verbal violations" have a double edge imo. If he said what you said , he should have been banned too .

Unfortunately I didn't report him in return, I don't generally do that because anet doesn't have me on payroll as an officer of the peace in this game, therefor it is not my job.

Gotta love the English-Americanish culture. You guys can't even swear even if you wanted, given your language restrictions. It's like what? 2 swearing words in total? And those two words cause so much drama that it's hilarious. Look at this forum even. In my mother tongue I can turn into a swearing almost any possible word and there are so many swear words that I can talk for 5 mins only using those.
However on these forums and in these games, there are people out there so immature that all they do all day long is sit there and wait for someone to do something that they might interpret as a personal offence. And when they hear it! OMG OMG they have to report it, because it's their duty, they live of the harm and punishment they get to apply to others for "breaking the rules". It's their only satisfaction, the climax of the day. They've been useful to society, they've detected the f word in a sentence and asked for bans/revenge/retaliation/etc.
For any mature person on this planet, the f word is just that: a word like any other.

And thus they only checked Joe's chat. Because clearly if someone wasn't reported, then they weren't doing anything wrong.
